Silent Saturday

As part of the RESPECT program, Ridley United Soccer Club will have a Silent Saturday on this Saturday, October 15th.

It’s a day when we just let the kids play the game. No yelling, no screaming, no cheering from the sidelines. Why? Youth sports have lost some of the fun. Imagine you are a 7 year old out on the field and you can hear your coach yelling, your mom yelling, your dad yelling, and even some random parent yelling, each with a different command. It sounds dumb but it’s true. Ask your son or daughter.

On the positive side, it gives the players a chance to learn the game and encourage one another. Just take some time and listen on Silent Saturday. It’s amazing how the kids just seem to figure out.

Thank you for your cooperation. The yelling and screaming can resume on October 23 but hopefully, there is a new perspective.

Spectators
We request that you make no verbal comments about the game or direct any comments to the players, referees or coaches. Hand Clapping IS allowed and encouraged! Be creative in how you choose to cheer your child's team - make signs to hold up or bring a rally towel in the team's color and wave it wildly. There are lots of ways to cheer other than verbally - applaud/clap, but please no horns, whistle or noise-makers.

Coaches
We request that you do not provide any direction - verbal or non-verbal - to players who are on the field. Speak to the team before the match, at substitution breaks and at halftime as you normally do. During the match, speak quietly to players on the bench about the game.
Players
While on the field, you are encouraged to speak to each other as normal. Continue to support and provide direction to each other.
