2008-2009 Travel Program

Overview

The travel program is designed for players U-9 and above who excel in the game and want to compete at a higher level.

Coaches are required to obtain a coaching license within one year. Teams usually practice two nights per week. Games are usually played on the weekends and most games are within a thirty-mile radius.

The benefit of this program is to constantly challenge players to realize their highest potential through more intensive coaching. Socially, they develop a long-lasting bond with their teammates, coaches and parents. This program offers players with superior ability and skills more playing time with players of equal talent. Player development, team tactics and winning are stressed more in the travel program, with highly skilled players getting the most playing time.

It is strongly recommended that each player play at the age-appropriate level. This program is geared towards the more competitive and committed player who desires a more challenging game than the intramural program offers.

Travel team players are required to purchase the club designated uniform. They will also be required to attend tournaments and pay (the coach) the associated registration fees of those tournaments which have been selected by the coach and team. It is recommended that a travel player attend camps to further improve his or her skills. Players are strongly encouraged to practice at home to refine fundamentals. It is this level of commitment and responsibility to the team that makes the travel program an area of faster paced development for each player.

The girls travel teams play in the Philadelphia Area Girls Soccer (PAGS) league  against teams in Delaware, Chester and Montgomery counties. League games usually start the first Sunday after Labor Day and end around Thanksgiving.

The boy’s travel teams play in the Delco League and play in the tri-county area. Games are held mostly on Saturdays starting the first Saturday after Labor Day and end around Thanksgiving.

Family/Picture Day is held in October and the Player's Banquet closes out the season in November. Other events may occur during the season. See the Calendar for more details.

Tryout Policy

Tryouts for boy and girl travel teams will be held on at least four different dates in May. After tryouts are held, each candidate is contacted to notify them of their status.

Every player of proper age is permitted to tryout for a travel team. It is MANDATORY for all players wanting consideration, to attend tryouts. Any exceptions must be in writing and submitted to and approved by the travel team directors. Travel team players from the previous season are not guaranteed a position unless they make the team through tryouts.

Coaches work together to select players in the best interest of the player, the team and the club. In age groups where there are more than one team, the first-division coach has first choice, then the second-division coach chooses, and so on. Eighteen is the maximum number of players allowed per team.

Once accepted to a team, the cost is $80 for registration, and you must participate in the $25 per family fundraiser. You must also purchase a club uniform if you do not already have one. Travel players also enjoy the benefits of our Family Day event and attend our year end banquet free of charge.
