Fall 2018

U7 & U9 - In House

At the U7 and U9 levels the coaches begin to teach team play skills while also giving the boys and girls room for individual achievement.  Each level introduces slightly more structured play than the last in order to prepare our young players to pursue travel soccer should they so desire.

The focus of U7 intramurals is to help our boys and girls continue to develop fundamental skills while nurturing a love of soccer.  We teach through various games and drills that encourage fun and competition while developing skill without the players even being aware of the fact that they are learning.  The goal of this level is to have the kids come off the field smiling and laughing, but also as a slightly better developed player.  Our games are small sided (3v3 or 4v4) without Goalkeepers to encourage open field offensive and defensive play.

U9 shifts the focus to a more structured style of play meant to mimic what is played by the earliest levels of travel soccer.  The coaches and trainers continue to develop the players' fundamental skills while adding elements of positional play, team play, and beginning to teach the more complicated rules of the pitch.  Sided play will be decided by team size but will be either 5v5, 6v6, or 7v7, all with Goalkeepers.  We hope to keep the practices and games fun while giving all of the boys and girls equal opportunity to play and develop knowledge of the game.  Players at this level will either move on to our Travel Program or the Coed Intramural Program.
